My client a Computer Software Company producing a specialist Land Survey and Engineering Design and Calculation program requires a computer programmer to maintain and develop the existing software. The Engineering program interacts with MicroStation CAD graphics and has been developed for over a long period by a small number of people using program code written largely in FORTRAN, C++ and MicroStation MDL. An ideal candidate would have knowledge in writing and maintaining programs in FORTRAN, C++, MFC, and MicroStation MDL. You will have some knowledge of and interest in Land Survey, Engineering and an understanding of mathematical equations. You should be comfortable generating User Interface Dialogs as well as designing and developing the main program calculation and data storage code. Our client, a software house specialising in the transport sector require a high level C#.net SQL server developer to design develop and implement new functionality for their very complex high availability extremely robust back office software systems that are used for Smart Card ticketing and gate access systems, they handle millions of data transactions daily.
Essential skills and knowledge:
You will come from a software house turnkey development background, with Solid C#.net and C# multi-threading knowledge able to develop high volume multi-threaded applications in C# (more than just async calls from a GUI thread). Solid server side development using C#, can you hand create code that actually works without relying on Visual Studio, would you know how to architect a system? TCP/IP knowledge, and other comms protocols including advanced socket programming. Your CV will need to clearly define the above know-how and will demonstrate actual achievements in this field. You will have a thorough understanding of how .net works from the ground up and can demonstrate your understanding of memory management, garbage collection, async comms for example.
Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio 2008/2010, Microsoft SQL Server development know how (T-SQL, table design, stored procedures, query optimisation etc.)
Background in Object Oriented Design and implementation.

Provide technical assistance to other engineering functions within the organisation e.g. other developers and System Testers. Report to team leader on performance against timescales, specifications and quality requirements. Identify any deviations from the plan and carry out corrective actions. This role will require liaison with management and engineering disciplines within the client, suppliers, subcontractors and partners.
